Peter Steinberger is the creator of OpenClaw, the open-source personal AI agent that became GitHub's most-starred software project and earned GitHub's award for the fastest-growing open-source project of 2026. OpenClaw is stewarded by the independent OpenClaw Foundation; since February 2026, Peter is at OpenAI, working on bringing agents to everyone. Previously he bootstrapped PSPDFKit (now Nutrient) from Vienna to nearly a billion end users and a nine-figure exit — then stepped away, burned out, and found his way back to building through AI, a story he's told on the TED main stage, the Lex Fridman Podcast, and as the opening keynote of AI Engineer World's Fair 2026. He lives in San Francisco and shares his work — plus a few dozen open-source tools — at steipete.me. Next mission: an agent even his mum can use.

Now he's at OpenAI building agents for everyone, his mum included, while the OpenClaw Foundation keeps the claw free. He's told the story at TED and on Lex Fridman. The claw is the law. 🦞
